Book excerpt: This report covers subsystem energy budget development procedures and performance criteria for building illumination which were developed by a consultant team of practitioners experienced in building illumination systems. A general procedure is described wherein the energy required for efficient illumination of a building is examined and corresponding power and annual energy budget guidelines are developed. This methodology is applied to three classes of building--offices, schools, and residences--to illustrate the method. Representative power and energy budgets are developed.
