After describing background theory, we presentanalysis techniques developed for the measurement of lensing using CMB datafrom the South Pole Telescope. We characterize several sources of biasand systematic effects in the measurement. After presenting thereconstructed power spectrum of the CMB lensing potential from SPT data,we perform a cosmological analysis. We obtain improved constraints onseveral cosmological parameters compared to those obtained from onlyprimary CMB data, including the dark energy equation of state, thematter fluctuation amplitude today, and the spatial curvature. We thendescribe analytic techniques for computing biases in the lensingreconstruction. Finally, we discuss a related topic, the effects on theCMB from a particular type of primordial isocurvature fluctuation modethat could be large today." --
