Book excerpt: The institution of the Monarchy is a very unique institution. In its present form it's the best friend democracy has. The Monarchy isn't in power, it has no power in its own right, yet it is able to give power. It has evolved to become an institution of unconditional freedom. It's the only institution we have that is genuinely independent, that is beyond the ballet box and the courtroom. It gives the people ownership of their system, it empowers the people and gives them the highest standard of freedom currently available. Once the role of the Monarchy is understood an instant republic looks very ordinary. This book looks at human nature our animal instincts and explains how the Monarchy satisfies our emotions. Even critics of the Monarchy will have to stop and think. It's a contest between ideology and intelligence. Only read this book if you're prepared to be enlightened and challenged. Change is a fact of life and the Monarchy assists in this process in an unobtrusive manner. This book is not about how systems work it's about why monarchy systems are so successful. At the present time democracy is under threat, it shouldn't be but change is part of the human experience. We can improve our system to ensure that the human condition is improved. We look at the party system, its future and the alternatives. Democracy may have a different look but its function and purpose remain the same. This book may challenge the way you think or reinforce the way you think, it may even change you. Either way no harm is done, at the very least you'll find it interesting.
