Book excerpt: The simplified nonlinear differential equation for transonic flow past a wavy wall is solved by the method of integration in series. A general procedure for the solution of the resulting recurrence formulas is shown and illustrated by a number of examples. A numerical test of convergence is applied to a key power series in k, the transonic similartiy parameter, and leads to the conclusion that smooth symmetrical potential flow past the wavy wall is no longer possible when the critical value of the stream Mach number is exceeded.
