A fierce critic of the Bolshevik movement, he became the principal journalistic advocate for western intervention into Russia. His dispatches are quite descriptive of events and personalities as well as being quite emotional. In addition to his news reports he published many articles, several books and gavelectures on Russian affairs. After his return to England from South Russia in 1920 and until his death in 1928 he served as Foreign Editor for the [London] TIMES.
