Book excerpt: This paper attempts to identify the empowerment factors of rural women in Bangladesh through homestead poultry rearing practices. Data were collected from 75 rural women involved in poultry rearing practices through interviews using a structured questionnaire. Factor analysis was performed to identify the empowerment factors. Multiple regression analysis was used to identify the relationships between the six empowerment factors and the overall empowerment of rural women. The results show that homestead poultry rearing practices empower rural women. This study indicates that independent decision making authority and increased involvement in family affairs are positively associated with empowerment. The implications of these findings for rural women in Bangladesh are discussed.
