Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to state and explain what is known about enemy theories of the use of chemical agents in battle and the methods of applying them so that we may understand his actions and anticipate his movements. The tactical principles discussed and the technical processes described should not be mistaken for those of the United States Army, although many close similarities are apparent. It is not intended in the least to suggest methods of employing our own chemical warfare troops, except so far as knowledge of the enemy may contribute to effective counteraction.
