In the case study, students will identify the significance of Li Shimin's political reforms in terms of centralizing power and increasing efficiency, and be able to understand his strategies and characteristics in both encouraging his subordinates to remonstrate and giving care to his people. Through this case study from ancient China, students will be able to grasp the characteristics of the leadership of Emperor Li Shimin, the second emperor of the Tang dynasty (CE 618-907), successfully identify his type of leadership, and in turn, be able to understand the key role played by this type of leader within an organization.
