Book excerpt: The paper is an account of the ecology of teh one-horned rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) in Kaziranga National park. It is competttors for food. A population census reveals are its primary competitors for food. A population census reveals that the rhinocerous are most numerous in the southern and western parts of the park. Although, there has been a general increase in the rhinoceros population, the annual percentages growth rate appears to be on the decrease. Revenues earned from the sale of rhinos and rhino horns is quite significant. Rhinos are usually captured in pits and poached because of the high price of the horn. [Author's abstract].
