Book excerpt: The term autism spectrum disorders (ASD) refers to a group of neurodevelopmental disorders characterised by social and communication impairments, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour. The thesis contains four studies using magnetoencephalography (MEG) to measure brain responses to auditory stimuli. The aim is to better understand the neural correlates of auditory processing defects in ASD, and determine how such deficits may be associated with spoken language impairment that affect many individuals on the autism spectrum.
