Book excerpt: The purpose of this report is to identify and to provide the technical assessment of transmission alternatives that meet the short- and long-term electrical supply requirements of Northfield Substation in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The transmission proposals studied relate to substation modifications and to the installation of a new line along an existing right-of-way about 3 kilometres long between Northfield and Jingle Pot substations. The scope of alternatives considered includes line routing to minimize right-of-way clearing, structure configuration, conductor selection, and voltage. Technical assessment and comparison of these alternatives is based on cost, clearing, access, and right-of-way requirements.
