Book excerpt: In 1955, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Philosophy of Education Society collaborated on a study examining the qualities of experience important to teacher education. Their report, entitled 'Qualities of Experience for Prospective Teachers' was published in 1957. A symposium on the report was held in 1958, hosted by the Philosophy of Education Society, and this book includes the paper read at it. The introduction includes a brief synopsis of the report itself, for readers unfamiliar with it, and the summary at the end deals with general criticisms, questions, and suggestions regarding it. This book may clarify the meaning of certain terms and the nature of issues for those who use the report in practical situations. As a cooperative discussion by representatives of varying schools of thought, it has a place in course in the philosophy or principles of education, especially if they include consideration of qualities of experience as educational ends, aims, or values.
