Book excerpt: I believe that some of the greatest lessons in life come out of personal experience, and this book is chalked full of those experiences for me. We all have our shortcomings, and we all face different obstacles, and it is my hope that this book will help tackle one of those obstacles - unnecessary martyrdom. As we journey together, I hope that I can either help you or help you assist someone else who may struggle with dying on hills that are never meant to be died on. I hope it will help people understand that there are some things that are worth the fight and there are many others that need to constantly be surrendered to Jesus. As we go through the phases and journey of climbing on and off the hill(s) of martyrdom, I pray that you will hear the welcoming voice of the Savior beckoning you into His arms of freedom and peace. I pray that we will understand that we spend way too much of our lives focused on things that are never meant to take up our focus and that life is much simpler when we keep our gaze fixed upon Jesus. As we go through these pages together, allow the Holy Spirit to prompt your heart towards further consideration and ask that He shines light on the areas that maybe you are not seeing in your own life. May we learn how to lay down the unnecessary martyrdom so that we can pick up true and eternal freedom in Christ.
