Boyd III papers consist of Boyd's memoir entitled, "A very small piece of the Battle of the Bulge," written on 3 April 2000 and revised on 10 October 2002. In the memoir, he describes the actions taken by his platoon during the initial German attacks of the Battle of the Bulge. Boyd describes the confusion caused by the sudden attack, and Colonel Descheneux's decision to surrender the 422nd Infantry Regiment Headquarters. He describes his cold and wet escape from the Germans, his recovery in England, and the reconsititution of his unit. Boyd also describes his lingering guilty feelings for escaping from the Germans while his men were taken as prisoners of war.
